Austria

Scenic cycling rotes

The beautiful landscapes make Austria a joy to discover, and here you will find that the rhythm of everyday life has a musical beat - every small village seems to boast several music festivals or events throughout the year. You will find a warm welcome at our hotels, and more than a touch of the Gemütlichkeit (cosiness and hospitality) for which the Austrians are renowned.

Danube Valley

National heritage sites

Imposing fortresses at seemingly every kink in the lazily flowing River Danube, the terraced vineyards of the Wachau, the extraordinary Benedictine abbey and Old Town of Melk... our chosen corner is a superb introduction to Austria on two wheels.

> Danube Castles & Vineyards (grade 1-2) Our idyllic riverside route concentrates on the most alluring section of the Danube, between the fine castle at Grein and the wine town of Krems.

Salzkammergut

Staggeringly picturesque villages

To the east of Salzburg, in the shadow of the mighty Dachstein (2,995 metres), majestic mountains plunge into sparkling blue lakes, creating almost fjord-like landscapes made all the more enchanting by the charming villages which clamber up the surrounding slopes.

> Salzburg Lake District (grade 2) This wonderful route takes in the dramatic Alpine scenery of Austria’s spectacular Lake District, where snow-capped peaks are mirrored in crystal-clear waters.
