Lesvos is an island which is just waiting to be explored. With its two large gulfs that reach in towards the centre, Lesvos resembles a jigsaw piece, each quarter different in character, from the petrified forest in the west to authentic Mytilini in the east, from the bird watcher's paradise of Skala Kallonis in the centre to the picturesque fortified town of Molyvos in the north. All over the island are 14th-century castles, examples of Ottoman architecture and ancient temples and monasteries.
